GENESIS 1-3…THE SEVEN OUTSTANDING REVELATIONS
We have been told and are made aware that Genesis is the seed bed of the Bible. Here great truths begin to be developed. Let’s take a brief look at seven of them in Genesis chapters 1-3.
• THE PERSONALITY OF GOD
The fact of a Creator is the fundamental teaching of Genesis 1. In the first verse of Genesis in words of supernatural grandeur, we have revelation of God as the first Cause, the Creator of the universe, the world, and man. Someone has stated, “In the beginning God…is the most majestic statement ever uttered.” Along with the word Creator, we have many other words that describe the personality of God in this first book of Genesis. Words like power, wisdom, justice, grace, holiness, sovereignty, faithfulness, patience and providence to name but a few.
• THE CREATION OF THE UNIVERSE
The creation of the universe is a revelation of God’s power and assures us that He lives (Rom. 1:20); the Scriptures are a revelation of His heart and assures us that He loves. Genesis one tells us how the world was made; Genesis three, how it was lost; John 1 tells us how it was redeemed verse 29; and Isaiah 11 how it will be renewed.
• THE ORIGIN AND UNITY OF THE HUMAN RACE
It is very clearly stated both in Old and New Testaments that all human beings have the unity of a common decent. “God that made the world and all things therein… hath made of one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and bounds of their habitation.” Acts 17:24-26.
• HOW SIN ENTERED THE WORLD
Compare the first four words in Genesis, “In the beginning God…” and the last four words of Genesis, “A Coffin in Egypt.” Gen. 3 shows us how sin affects the individual; chapter 4, how it affects the family; and chapter 6 and 6, how it affects the human race.
• MAN’S UNRELENTING ENEMY
The Biblical records declare that there is in the universe of God a being: powerful, malignant, cunning, who is in rebellion against the Most High—Ezekiel 28—and that he is responsible for the entrance of sin into our world; and that he is the bitter and relentless foe of God and the human race—Job 1.The two methods by which he works, therefore are deception as an angel of light and violence as a roaring lion ( See Ephesians 6).
• THE FOUNTAIN HEAD OF PROPHECY
Genesis 3:15 is the foundational prophecy; it contains in embryo of all that was subsequently revealed. Notice that Eve is no longer on the side of Satan and in this verse and prophecy begins the age long conflict which is now rapidly coming to a head. This is one verse that each and every child of God should both memorize and study.
• THE METHOD OF REDEMPTION
“Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skin, and clothed them” Genesis 3:21. Here we have the primal revelation of sacrifice. The fig leaves of their own providing were ineffectual and insufficient. It was only through the shedding of blood were they able to have the sufficient covering. “All our righteousness are as filthy rags” The wardrobe of a Christian is the righteousness of God. In our Bible reading this year, let us return often to this book of Genesis.
