Bell Gardens in Valley Center, CA

Bell Gardens is a philanthropic endeavor on the part of Taco Bell
founder Glen W. Bell, Jr. Mr. Bell's vision was to "create a place for children and families to go and have fun." Also, as a real working farm, Bell Gardens shows kids how things grow.

We started the day with an educational presentation on the various kinds of produce that is grown at the gardens.
Then we were taken on a hayride and then a train ride around the property.

Afterwards, we went to some of the fields where we learned about some of the agricultural techniques that they use to grow things efficiently.
There was also a clay brick oven where they made their own bricks from the earth on the farm. A tall cornstalk maze was an enjoyable diversion for all.

We were treated to a popcorn snack and each student received their own ear of special popping corn to take home and make popcorn. After a visit to the produce stand, where plants, fruits and vegetables of all kinds, grown at Bell Gardens, are available for sale, many families stayed for a picnic lunch.

Our first trip was in the fall, but many families returned in the spring to pick strawberries and were featured on a spot in a PBS television show, California Gold.
