The Christian Home Educators Association of California is
a non-profit ministry established in 1982 to provide information,
support, and training to the home education community throughout
the state.
Governed by an annually-elected board of directors, CHEA is a tax-exempt
corporation and gifts or donations are tax-deductible.
In
addition to the five-member Board of Directors, CHEA has a full-time
executive director, two full-time and several part-time staff members,
dozens of volunteers, and a statewide network of autonomous local
home school groups.
Among
its most important goals is the work CHEA does to foster an accurate
and favorable image of home education to the general public and
the community, cooperating with other home education organizations
in pursuing common goals, and monitoring legislative activity by
supporting a Special Consultant for Legislative Affairs.

The
Home School Legal Defense Association is a non-profit advocacy
organization established to defend and advance the constitutional
right of parents to direct the education of their children and to
protect family freedoms. Through annual memberships, HSLDA is tens
of thousands of families united in service together, providing a
strong voice when and where needed.
HSLDA
advocates on the legal front by fully representing member families
at every stage of proceedings. Each year, thousands of member families
receive legal consultation by letter and phone, hundreds more are
represented through negotiations with local officials, and dozens
are represented in court proceedings. HSLDA also takes the offensive,
filing actions to protect members against government intrusion and
to establish legal precedent. On occasion, HSLDA will handle precedent-setting
cases for non-members, as well.
HSLDA
advocates on Capitol Hill by tracking federal legislation that affects
home schooling and parental rights. HSLDA works to defeat or amend
harmful bills, but also acts proactively, introducing legislation
to protect and preserve family freedoms.
HSLDA
advocates in state legislatures, at the invitation of state home
school organizations, by assisting individual states in drafting
language to improve their home school legal environment and to fight
harmful legislation.
HSLDA
advocates in the media by presenting articulate and knowledgeable
spokesmen to the press on the subject of home schooling. HSLDA staff
members are regularly called upon for radio, television, and print
interviews, and their writings are frequently published in newspapers
and magazines across the country. HSLDAs own bimonthly magazine,
The Home School Court Report, provides news and commentary on a
host of current issues affecting home schoolers. And its two-minute
daily radio broadcast, Home School Heartbeat can be
heard on nearly 400 radio stations.
HSLDA
advocates for the movement, by commissioning and presenting quality
research on the progress of home schooling. Whether its in
print, from the podium, or on-the-air, HSLDA provides insightful
vision and leadership for the cause of home schooling.

Family Protection Ministries (FPM), directed by Roy Hanson,
is the only
full-time ministry in Sacramento defending both parental rights
and private home schooling freedoms in our state legislature (which
passes more bills each year than Congress). Roy Hanson, with the
capable assistance of Jim Davis, daily monitors thousands of pieces
of legislation in California.
Against
incredible odds, they have been used mightily by God to ensure
our freedoms have remained intact. They have been there for us for
the
last fifteen years, winning battles every year in the legislature.
If we
want to keep these freedoms, we need to support this ministry!

home education leaders by hosting leadership meetings several times
a year. CFS organizes events and activities which would be difficult
for individuals or small groups to accomplish.
Goals:
1. Strengthen and encourage home educators and their leaders.
2. Educate and inform new and experienced home educating families.
3. Promote unity among home educators in San Diego.
